Chemex has been around for over 80 years. It was invented in 1939 in New York by the German chemist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm. He was a specialist in the field of filter technology. He thus developed a glass carafe to infuse and filter ground coffee. The hourglass-shaped design, recognizable among all, remains unchanged since its invention. This innovation of the time and its unique shape secured Chemex a place in the permanent exhibition of MOMA - Museum of Modern Art in New York. Besides its classic shape and its characteristic wooden ring, the Chemex has other practical features. Thus, a channel is located in the upper part of the jug. This not only makes it easier to pour the drink, but also allows hot water vapor to escape from the 'belly' of Chemex.

What makes the Chemex so special?

The carafe, handcrafted in Massachusetts, is made of borosilicate glass. It is known for its heat resistance and clarity. With its wooden sleeve and leather strap, the Chemex is very elegant and a real eye-catcher. The matching filter paper is also special. It is 20-30% thicker than regular paper and additionally has very fine pores, which allows significantly more small particles, oils and bitter elements to be filtered out during the brewing process. The result is a pure and aromatic filter coffee, as it should be. No unpleasant aftertaste, but a pure and finely nuanced taste experience. Versatile use

Ground coffee can of course be replaced by good tea. Undesirable aromas are also spared you thanks to the special glass. This is in fact neutral in terms of odor and taste and does not absorb foreign aromas. So you always get a pure product. Another possibility of use is the "Ice Brew". To do this, simply put a part of ice cubes in the "belly" of the Chemex and use a part of water to prepare the coffee. When you pour the coffee as usual, the hot coffee falls directly on the ice cubes and cools. This makes the filter coffee particularly mild and accentuates its taste, which is particularly pleasant when it is hot.
