The revolutionary design combines technology developed by illy Caffè from research into heat flow dynamics with Alessi's design expertise. The PULCINA coffee maker is the result of a long research: the participants wanted to find out how to optimise the shape of the coffee maker in order to improve the organoleptic characteristics* of the espresso and to enhance them.

They therefore analysed what happens inside an espresso maker. As a result, Illy was able to determine the ideal shape of the boiler - the lower part of the coffee pot where the water boils - to obtain a perfect espresso. Thanks to the special nature of the inside of the kettle, the Pulcina by Alessi interrupts the brewing of coffee at exactly the right moment.

This avoids the volcanic phase, that final moment of extraction that leaves a bitter, burnt aftertaste. Only the best of the coffee arrives in the cup. Its full-bodied, rounded aroma can be savoured to the full. The spout is relatively pronounced. Its typical V-shape is reminiscent of a chick's beak, which inspired the name of the coffee maker.

It is designed so precisely that coffee can be poured without dripping. The PULCINA coffee maker is practical, functional and requires no special knowledge of how to use it. The coffee is prepared in the same way as with traditional coffee makers.

This coffee maker can be used on gas, electric and glass ceramic hobs. However, not on induction hobs.
